S-101

Concrete Calculator

Cubic yards, bags, truck loads and weight for a slab, with multiple sections and an optional thickened edge.

Open sheet →
S-102

Rebar Calculator

Bar count each way, lap splices carried into the total length and into the order, stock bars packed into 20, 40 or 60 ft, weight, intersections and supports, for a slab grid or a continuous footing.

Open sheet →
S-103

Footing Calculator

Footing concrete from the building's own footprint: a continuous footing measured on its centreline so the four corners are not poured twice, plus isolated pads and round piers, added into one order in cubic yards or bags.

Open sheet →
G-201

Concrete Cost Calculator

Your own delivered price per cubic yard applied to the quarter-yard order quantity, with short-load fee, delivery, and bags against ready-mix.

Open sheet →
C-101

Gravel Calculator

Cubic yards, short tons and metric tonnes of gravel, stone or rock, with a sourced density, the compaction conversion and a truck count.

Open sheet →
C-201

Asphalt Calculator

Short tons and metric tonnes of hot mix for up to three compacted courses over four areas, with a cited in-place unit weight and the spread rate a paving quote is written in.

Open sheet →
C-102

Fill Dirt Calculator

Cubic yards, tons and truck loads of fill dirt, in or out, with the loose and in-place rows of a cited federal exhibit and no compaction applied unless you ask.

Open sheet →
C-103

Sand Calculator

Cubic yards, short tons and a 50 lb bag count for sand, with the dry, damp and wet rows of a cited table and a screeded bedding depth.

Open sheet →
C-105

Topsoil Calculator

Cubic yards, bags, weight and coverage of topsoil for a lawn, a top-dressing pass, a garden bed or a raised box, with the published depth of each job and the soil already on the ground subtracted.

Open sheet →
A-201

Concrete Block Calculator

Blocks, mortar bags, masonry sand and grout for a block wall, with openings deducted and every figure read off a masonry association's own estimating sheet.

Open sheet →
A-203

Paver Base Calculator

Crushed stone base, bedding sand and the excavation depth under a paver patio, driveway or street, with the minimum base thickness for each traffic class read off a masonry association's own application guide.

Open sheet →
A-102

Roofing Calculator

Squares, shingle bundles, underlayment rolls, ridge cap and starter for up to four roof sections, from the plan footprint and the pitch, with every yield read off a named manufacturer sheet.

Open sheet →
A-104

Roof Pitch Calculator

One slope written four ways and solved back from any of them — rise in 12, angle in degrees, grade in percent and the slope factor — plus the ridge height and the common rafter length once a span is typed.

Open sheet →
S-202

Wall Framing Calculator

Studs, plates, headers, cripples and sheathing for a stud wall, with each door and window laid out from its own rough-opening width and position, and the wall elevation redrawn from what you typed.

Open sheet →
S-203

Rafter Calculator

Common rafter length with the ridge board deducted, the plumb, seat and birdsmouth cuts with the height above plate, the rafter count, the stock to buy, and hips, valleys and jacks on a hip roof.

Open sheet →
S-201

Board Foot Calculator

Board feet for up to four lumber sizes on one order, with the whole-board-foot order quantity, lineal feet, pieces, cost per board foot and per 1,000, an optional nominal-versus-dressed volume, and the piece redrawn from what you typed.

Open sheet →
A-301

Deck Calculator

Decking boards, joists, rim and ledger, beams, posts and footing concrete in one takeoff, with the gap and the 45 degree layout computed and the framing plan redrawn from what you typed.

Open sheet →
A-302

Fence Calculator

Posts by type, rails, pickets, gates and post-hole concrete from one line: gate openings come off first, corners divide the run, and the hole is counted less the post standing in it.

Open sheet →
A-202

Mortar Calculator

Brick and mortar for a brick wall: the count and the mortar volume from wall area or from your own brick count, at a 3/8 or 1/2 inch joint, with the masonry sand that goes with them.

Open sheet →
S-301

Stair Stringer Calculator

Risers, riser height, treads, total run, the stringer diagonal, the layout line and the throat from a measured total rise, with the 2x12 to buy and how many of them a width takes.

How a sheet is built

A calculator here is written the way a drawing is issued. The formula is a pure, unit-tested function; the assumptions behind it are printed on the page instead of hidden in the code; the drawing is dimensioned from the same numbers the result comes from; and the sheet carries a revision number that changes when the math changes.

Thicknesses, reinforcement and base depths shown on this site are ordinary US practice, not code requirements. Your building department, your engineer and your soils report outrank anything printed here. Read the methodology and the editorial standards before you rely on a number.
